How To Reuse That Dead Big-Box Store in Your Neighborhood
You know the one. The old Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Bed Bath & Beyond; the one that shut down or moved out of town, leaving the big empty warehouse which isn’t good for much, since no local businesses can afford or manage to fill it with their wares? Yeah, that one.
Julia Christensen travelled over 17,000 miles, and saw how communities around the country are turning these structures into something more productive than local eyesores and real estate nightmares. Schools, churches, and apartments are a few of the new residents of these urban monstrosities. Read more about the project here.
Julia will be speaking at the University of Texas at Arlington’s School of Architecture main auditorium, Room 204, on Monday, February 6, 2006 @ 5 PM. Call 817-272-2801 for more information.
