Revitalizing Urban Development
Here’s a great article on some creative approaches to urban development in the 21st century. Cal Poly-educated architect Teddy Cruz has begun reconnecting to his Latin roots and using some density-driven ingenuity to redesign urban and suburban development. Although originally designed in the beige mold of the most uncreative of American suburbs, the culturally vibrant and organic modification of communities of Tijuana offer a different plan. Working with San Diego-based non-profit Casa Familiar, Cruz has revised the core elements of Modernism with a more modular and adaptable model that could provide real solutions for urban planners in both developing countries and stateside—where inspiration is much needed.
