I came across a blog entry on Make the other day about shoes made from recycled materials. A brief search turned up a bunch more companies that do the same thing. Most of these companies recycle old tires to make the soles of their shoes. A little more searching and I found out that cultures all over the world have been making tires into shoes for years, probably for as long as there have been rubber tires. They’re not as pretty as the ones you can buy, but you can make your own sandals.

Get 50% more closet space for under $15!
Materials
2 – 36” length of 180# chain
4 – ½” x 2” bolts
4 – ½” nuts
2 - ½” electrical conduit, cut to half the width of the closet
2 - ¾” electrical conduit, cut to half the width of the closet
2 – ¾” plumbing pipe caps
If your original closet rod is strong enough, you will not need these two additional pipes. In place of the two conduit pipes, you can use closet rods cut to size
2 - ¾” electrical conduit, cut to the entire width of your closet
2 - ½” electrical conduit, cut to the entire width of your closet

This year, instead of excelsior to line your Easter baskets, why not make Angel Hair?
Cheveaux d’Ange is similar to cotton candy, but easy enough that if you can boil water, you can make it yourself. It is messy, but that is part of the fun. Just put down lots of newspapers, and clean-up will be a breeze.

Many crafty projects require the use of rope. Macrame anyone? Hammocks, shelving, finishes for railings, bannisters, etc. (ever been on a navy ship?) put knots of all kinds to good use. Learning how to tie various knots is probably not something you’d think would be easy online.
