Read All About It

Why is it that with so many news outlets (TV, radio, print, cable…), you always get the same story, framed exactly the same way? Where is the alternate point of view?
Six corporations control the mainstream media (General Electric, Viacom, Disney, Bertelsmann, Time Warner, and News Corp) and shape the opinion of the American citizen, consumer, and voter. That these six companies have an agenda that they push forward through their control of the media is an understatement.
The stories that these six companies do not report are out there, but you have to go find them yourself. It is not the easiest thing to do.
iMedia (“Independent Media”) can help you. iMedia is a free Mac OS X application that gathers news articles, opinion/editorial content, radio, and TV programs from selected independent media organizations on the internet. You can read these sources in the iMedia browser, or your preferred web browser, or play radio and TV segments directly in the appropriate media player. You can download the audio content to your iPod (via iTunes) for news on the go.
Using iMedia, you can organize these independent news sources into categories and read or watch the ones that are of interest to you. You can create Smart Lists, which will select items for you based on your criteria; for instance you can have it aggregate all the stories about the economy, the environment, or any topic of your choosing into one list. Think of these as virtual sections of your online newspaper.
