DIY Disaster Kits
After the New Orleans disaster, there’s been a lot of talk around our household about getting an emergency kit. After a quick online search, I was surprised by how many emergency backpacks, car packs, and home kits I found online. I was also surprised by the prices. A hundred bucks for a red backpack with a flashlight and some Band Aids? No thanks.
Then I found 72 Hours, a site that gives you the skinny on putting together your own emergency kits. It has a Bay Area focus (meaning an emphasis on earthquakes and tsunamis), but the advice is pretty sound no matter where you live. So don’t get caught with your pants down and no emergency sani-toilet in sight.
