Platial is a genius Google Maps mashup that lets you create maps with any context you like. It works a lot like Flickr, Yahoo’s photo sharing app.
You can make your own maps—say, fun things for wedding guests to do, or the best places to make out in your hometown. You can also join forces with community members to map your collective consciousness. Together, you can build maps of where to get wireless access in coffee shops, where to find the best baked goods the world over, or where you can go to ride a carousel anywhere in the United States.
Like Flickr, the system offers tagging, so its easier to find projects that are already underway, or to quickly locate your own stuff once you’ve amassed a large collection of useful maps.
