Boo Bags
Halloween is fast approaching — like I need to tell you that.
I made these tiny trick-or-treat bags for a party I was attending last year. As you can see—I put a quarter in the picture for size reference—they are just large enough to hold a chocolate truffle or a miniature candy bar.
Each bag takes a few minutes to assemble and a certain amount of patience, but the fun is in the process. (This was one of those times, too, when not being good with the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator actually worked out for the design!)
Tools:
- some form of cutting tool: scissors, X-acto knife, whatever you feel comfortable using
- glue stick
- hole punch
Ingredients:
- heavy orange craft paper
- dark string or narrow ribbon for handles
- black tissue paper
- the bag template I designed for you
- candy
Make it:
- Download the template.
- Change the design if you’d like. This year, I’m working on a wicked bat!
- Print out your design (in black) on orange paper.
- Cut and fold along the lines on the template — it should be fairly obvious what to do.
- Glue the side flap first. My glue stick requires me to hold it in place for a minute, but you can use a paperclip.
- Fold and glue the bottom flap next. Again, hold it until the glue sets.
To make the handles:
- Cut a piece of black string or ribbon. I used about 3″ per handle. In retrospect, I think 4″ would work better.
- Punch holes in the bags, insert the string or ribbon, and tie a knot to secure them in place.
To make the liner:
- Cut out approximately 6″ squares of black tissue paper, and stuff into the bags like they do at fancy department stores.
Drop in a piece of candy and give to all the ghoulies and ghosties that go bump in the night.
