There are times when you unexpectedly find yourself in need of a funnel (impromptu funnel cake making session, car troubles, etc). My solution? I give an old paper cup that would’ve otherwise been discarded new life by simply putting a small hole in the bottom using a sharp object.
I think autumn is my favorite time of year. The crisp air, the smell of fires in the fireplace, the leaves, all of it makes me happy.
I try to capture some of the season for my Thanksgiving, but here in California, the leaves rarely turn red, they just gray. I checked with the Master Gardeners Program in Santa Clara County and learned that sugar maple trees are the only ones that put on those famous displays back east, and those don’t grow here…

This saves you scrambling for that pen to scribble a list that you’ll probably lose anyway. Now all you need to take with you to Home Depot is some cash and your cell phone.
This season Tord Boontje has collaborated with Target and created a line of products for the holidays, as well as designing the store decorations and packaging. While most of the attention is focused on his line of dishes and glassware, I particularly like the line of home decorations.
Midwesterners, behold! There’s a new way to travel. Megabus offers non-stop travel to several Midwest cities for as cheap as $1 ($.50 transaction fee). Talk about budget travel. I just booked myself roundtrip from Cleveland to Chicago for $16.50. Not only am I saving myself money on gas and tolls, I’m going to use the hands-free time to crochet a scarf.
