Dressed-up

Here’s a fun idea for dressing up your mantle (or a shelf for that matter) for Santa Clause — and best yet, you probably have all the ingredients and tools out right now: gift wrap, scissor, tape. If you have some hole punches, all the better, but they are not really needed.
We celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas out my house, if you do this, be sure to put some aluminum foil under the Menorah, just to be safe with the candles, and please: no fires in the fireplace, either. Smokey says, “Be safe.”
Here’s how to make it:
Ingredients:
- Gift wrap
- Tape
Tools:
- Scissors
- Hole punch (optional)
- Ruler (optional)
Make it:
- Measure your mantle or shelf, both length and depth. You can eyeball this if you have a good sense of dimension, or even roll out the paper.
- Transfer the dimension to the paper. Double the depth - this will be the part that hangs over the edge. Cut out the paper. (This is a great way to use up awkward and other wise ususable scraps of wrapping paper, by the way.)
- Fold the paper up accordion-style.

- Decide which edge you want to cut. You can make it scalloped or pointy, or any other shape.
- Using the hole punch, or scissors, cut out bits of the folded up paper to make a lace effect.

- Unfold and tape down on your mantel, and fold the scalloped edge over the lip of your mantel.
- Hang your stockings with care.
