Seed, seal, deliver
Ah, the onset of spring. The sun is shining, birds are chirping, and members of the Seed Savers Exchange are starting to receive seed requests from fellow seed savers. My first request came in this week.
This presented both a challenge and an opportunity: design an easy-to-fold seed packet that will not only hold the seeds, but protect them in the mail as they travel to their new home. Ideally, it would offer blank space for record useful information about the seed, and it would be nice to include an image of the plant.
Here’s the simple seed packet I came up with—click the image to view its actual size and print it out. I prefer to print the picture on the side of the packet that won’t have the flap glued over it, because I think it makes a better presentation. If you happen to have access to layout software like InDesign, you can flip the text so that it’s right-side-up once the packet is folded, but that is just a nice-to-have extra; the gardener can always turn the packet around. The image at the top of this post shows how to fold and glue the packet together.

This last image shows a complete template before folding. Make sure to use heavy paper (cardstock is best) to protect the seeds. This packet fits nicely into an envelope, so you should be able to send your seeds first class without a problem. Happy planting!
