Wanted: DIY denim do-overs
Those of you who haven’t yet perused the current issue of ReadyMade had better get crackin’—you’ve only got two and a half weeks left to submit your cleverest repurposed projects made from this month’s MacGyver challenge item: jeans.
Here’s the abridged version of our resident MacGyver’s rallying cry:
Not only are there hundreds of brands of jeans out there, but every season, each manufacturer belches forth a new line of styles and cuts, sewn from myriad matierals and available in a cacophony of washes , colors, and embroidered limited-edition prints. The point is, I’m getting the feeling that there are an awful lot of old (and, I guess, not-so-old) pairs of jeans in our collective closets, all casualties of the vagaries of fashion. Don’t wait 20 years until they come back into vogue—see what use you can make of them today.
So what are you waiting for? Re-do your denim and send photos or projects to MacGyver Challenge, 817 Bancroft Way, Berkeley, CA 94710 or articles[at]readymademag[dot]com by Friday, March 23, 2007. The most injeanious idea wins a subscription to the magazine and a ReadyMade T-shirt.
