Fiber art
Last week, I braved the 15-degree temps of New York and visited several museum shows worth checking out. My favorite was “Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting,” at the Museum of Arts and Design, nestled in the shadow of the MoMA on West 53rd Street. Knitting, crocheting, and lace-making get the royal treatment on the museum’s three floors, and artists like Dave Cole (famous for his large-scale American flag created with cranes and giant knitting needles) and Piper Shepard (don’t miss her intricate X-acto cut muslin piece, Lace Meander) shine. The show—which deliberately elevates domestic crafts to high art—is up through June 17th.
