Home Depot sheds some light on CFLs
Earth Day is this weekend, and The Home Depot wants to help you celebrate. The orange-aproned home improvement outlet is giving away 1 million free CFLs to customers all across the country this Sunday in honor of the planet’s annual “Save me!” soiree (fine print: while supplies last, in the contiguous 48 states).
Stop by and pick up your freebie, and if you don’t already use CFLs (as opposed to incandescent light bulbs), purchase enough to switch out all of the bulbs in your place. Home Depot estimates that its gesture alone will result in $12 million in annual energy saving costs and the reduction of 196 million pounds of Carbon Dioxide emissions—the equivalent of removing more than 70,000 cars from America’s roadways—so just imagine what changing out all of your bulbs could do! (Study up on the advantages CFLs offer with the help of this excellent video, which took third place in Treehugger’s Convenient Truths video contest.)
