Laser (machine) contest
Ever since Kate Lydon at Saturate Design showed us some amazing pillow covers she made while experimenting with a laser cutter, I’ve been drooling over the machine. Used by architects, fabricators, industrial designers, and many others, laser cutters are hulking, expensive tools, housed mainly in shops and schools. From my (admittedly limited) understanding of the process, you can use them to etch, cut, trim, or brand intricate designs into just about any material of choice. Though the machine is way beyond my magazine editor’s budget—and far too large for my 400-square-foot apartment—interested parties should enter Instructables’s “Win a BrightStar Laser Cutter contest.” The deadline is June 17th, and anyone who posts an Instructables how-to project can enter. The grand prize is a $6,000 laser cutting machine; excuse the pun, but it doesn’t get hotter than that.
