Tapes ‘n Tapes
During a trip to L.A. this weekend, I wandered through myriad art galleries, including those on the Culver City Art Walk. One of the most creative installations I saw was a solo show of Nicola Vruwink’s crocheted work at d.e.n. contemporary art, a newish space on Washington Blvd. My favorite pieces were ceiling- and wall-mounted text she made using old audio cassette tape. The titles come from treacly pop song lyrics, a winsome inversion that I think MacGyver would approve of. Very cool, very ReadyMade. The show is up through July 14th.
