(Un)Weird Science
With all this serious talk today about global warming, CO2 emissions, “bio”-this, and “genetically modified”-that, there’s no ignoring the impact that science has on our daily lives. It’s a shame, then, how little most of us actually know about something so crucial to our existence. Not that we can all be chemists or astrophysicists, but I for one am sure I know more about the Dharma Initiative than I do about, um, any real-life scientific initiatives. So I was excited when a friend of mine told me about Down to a Science, a Bay Area Salon, of sorts, where real scientists get together with real non-scientists and talk about important science-y things in a down-to-earth non-science-y way. These aren’t lectures—just curious people chatting about interesting things, followed by Q&A. Oh, and food and drink. Careful, or you might just learn something.
