The beauty of going grey
We welcomed a special guest visitor to the ReadyMade offices last week. Her name is Laura Allen and she is a member of the Greywater Guerrillas, an educational and activist organization that promotes water conservation through books, lectures, DIY workshops and their website, greywaterguerrillas.com. Though most of us had heard of greywater (water that flows down your sink, shower or washing machine drains), few of us had any idea how easy and beneficial it can be to harness it for good use. I was lucky enough to visit Laura’s home and was blown away by her lush garden, which is bursting with fruits, vegetables, trees, and flowers—all of which are fed with water that would normally just disappear down the drain, wasted. Check out their website and get your hands on a copy of their book, Dam Nation: Dispatches from the Water Underground. Or better yet, send them an e-mail—perhaps they can help you rig up a greywater system of your own!
