You’re a good man, Charley Harper!
On Tuesday, a few of us paid a visit to our friendly neighbors over at Pixar, where ReadyMade contributing editor Todd Oldham was speaking about his new book, Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life. I reviewed it for the issue of ReadyMade that’s hitting newsstands any day now, but suffice it to say that it’s an exhaustive celebration of an immensely talented artist. During his presentation, Todd shared stories about how he first discovered Charlie’s work as a kid, and how it has inspired everything he’s worked on since—from fashion to furniture to interior design. Todd was lucky enough to spend a good portion of the past five years hanging out with Charlie and archiving more than 60 years of his work—about 30 percent of which is presented in this 420-page volume. Sadly, Charlie passed away last month, just days after seeing the first printed copy of the book, but it’s thrilling and heartwarming to see his talent and wit live on in this wonderful tribute.
