Wanting is not the same as needing…

But the premise behind this art project is still pretty smart, in an “aren’t-we-so-clever” kind of way. Justin and Christine—a New York City couple fixated on tracking their material “wants”—are painting canvases of the objects they most desire, then selling the representations on their website, Wants for Sale. The goods range from mundane and cheap (buffalo wings for $12.70) to luxe and spendy (an iPhone for 649.17). The conceit is that, once they get the money for the painted version, they’ll go out and buy the actual thing. And if you happen to own anything on their list that you’d like to trade, well, they’re open to that, too.
