The people’s choice
Who doesn’t like the idea of design by democracy? Starting this week, the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum is asking citizens of the world to weigh in on good design—of the product, architectural, fashion, interior, or landscape variety—and submit their most award-worthy picks for the museum’s annual People’s Design Award. So far, nominees include the iPhone, a pair of random cowboy boots, and garment industry golden boy Thom Browne. The voting process is simple: Nominate as many designs as you’d like, then cast one vote for your favorite by October 16. The winners will be announced at a gala in New York on October 18th, but because the museum actually does value us lowly plebeians, you can watch the event in real time on the Cooper-Hewitt website. Let freedom ring.
