Crafting a career
Ambitious crafters, have we got a party for you. From 6-9 p.m. tomorrow night—Tuesday, October 2—the craft connoisseurs at Rare Device will be hosting a launch party for designer Meg Mateo Ilasco’s new book, Craft Inc., at San Francisco gallery, bar, and dance club 111 Minna. Reviewed (by yours truly) in ReadyMade’s new Mod Squad issue, this handy guide details how to go full-time with the glue gun and turn your beloved hobby into a booming business.
Of course, you could simply pick up a copy at your local independent bookstore, but then you’d miss out on meeting the lovely Ms. Mateo Ilasco in person. And you wouldn’t score any of the awesome prizes. So come out to mingle with other knitters, nailers, and needlers over cocktails, and stay to win DIY titles from Chronicle Books and design-conscious treats from the craft superstars featured in the guide (including Lotta Jansdotter, Jill Bliss, and Jonathan Adler). If you’re lucky enough to land the grand prize—one month of free advertising on design*sponge—this launch party just might launch your crafty career (remember to bring a business card to enter). See you all there!
L.A. crafters: keep an eye out for the upcoming book party at Reform School in November.
And SF design denizens, take note: Rare Device is celebrating its cross-country expansion from Brooklyn to SF—and opening the new west coast store—on Thursday, October 25 with a gallery reception for Los Angeles-based artist Kelly Lynn Jones.
