Too cool for school
At long last, Los Angeles’ hippest design store/gallery, Reform School, has unveiled a new retail storefront (and excellent online shop), that’s chock full of great art (by ReadyMade faves Alyson Fox, Lisa Congdon, and Jill Bliss), books, and housewares, all of which I’m coveting. If the aesthetic looks familiar, it’s because Julia Rothman, who created a print for ReadyMade’s recent Small Spaces Issue, did all the illustrations. And proprietors Billie and Tootie both have fantastic eyes when it comes to curating the selection of products. If you’re lucky enough to be in L.A. today, head to the brick-and-mortar Silver Lake store for an opening of new work by one of my favorite young artists, Ryan Jacob Smith. I wish I could be there, but I’ll settle for this groovy T-shirt he designed instead.
