Chairicatures

Here at ReadyMade we have a penchant for fine found design, so when we read about designer Martino Gamper’s 100 Chairs in 100 Days exhibit, we were, of course, intrigued. Held in London this past October, the show celebrated the two years the artist spent salvaging discarded seats from London streets and friends’ homes. After deconstructing each piece, Gamper cobbled together a new chair each day for over three months, creating a “three-dimensional sketchbook” that explores the “geographical, historical, and human resonance of design.” His reclaimed constructions are fanciful flights from the concept of the chair, marrying disparate designs both distinct and mundane. Missed the show? We did too. Hence, the newest addition to our holiday wishlist: Gamper’s recently released 100 Chairs in 100 Days and its 100 Ways. Check it out for a look at his inspiring array of asymmetrical armchairs, bent benches, and chimerical chaises.
