MacGyver Challenge: Old games
{Deadline: January 21, 2008}
by Anthony Discenza
Games, whether they’re played on a high-definition screen or a printed piece of cardboard, seem to have a built-in half-life. Save for several immortal classics, the typical multiplayer pastime enjoys only a brief period of popularity before being relegated to some dusty closet. Others—like that ancient edition of Trivial Pursuit you’ve memorized all the answers to—just haven’t weathered the test of time. And then there’s the video variety. Which leaves us with a playroom full of rainbow-hued plastic pieces and old Game Boy cartridges that need to be put to use. So we challenge you, dear readers, to a game: Go directly to those stacks of bygone board games, those collected video-game controllers. Do not pass Go! Just come up with a way to repurpose the passé playthings, and enter to win a subscription and a ReadyMade T-shirt.
You’ve got until January 21, 2008. Send projects or photos to MacGyver Challenge, 817 Bancroft Way, Berkeley, CA 94710 or articles {at} readymademag {dot} com.
