Mid-century mail
Anyone who’s been contemplating a splurge at Herman Miller will appreciate this 41-cent bargain. The U.S. Postal Service has announced that it will be honoring iconic designers Charles and Ray Eames this summer with a collection of 16 stamps designed by Derry Noyes. The stamps will feature images of their most recognizable designs: stacks of fiberglass chairs, the leather lounge and ottoman set, and my personal favorite, the Hang-It-All.
During the 1950s, the husband-and-wife team created ground-breaking contributions to modern design and architecture using new materials like fiberglass and plastic—thus making design widely available to the average American. Since then, innovations by the Eameses have joined the canon of modern design classics; soon, they’ll add a touch of style to your snail mail, too.
