Trade secrets
We’re doing some remodeling with a motley crew of help. The process has been something of a treasure hunt, as we have a vague sense of the look we want, but no idea where to procure the materials.
And so, in my next few blog posts, I’ll be sharing some newly acquired trade secrets. One that was delivered today is our new closet door. I nabbed the idea from a Phoenix home we covered in issue 31. It’s a sliding aluminum door frame on a track that you can fill up with anything—wood, colored Plexi tubes (as shown here), frosted glass. We’ll probably use salvaged wood planks, like this.
The door hails from a horse stall manufacturer in Florida called Armour Gates. The company offers a variety of barn fixings (doors emblazoned with rearing stallions will please anyone with a Black Beauty fetish).
Plus, the company just bought a CNC machine, so they can customize your frame with die cut words or images. We tried to come up with bon mots or graphics that we’d want to gaze at every morning, but ended up skipping it. (There’s also a clip art library you can sample from.) When you order, ask for “Chip,” who renewed my faith in the service industry.
