Free vocab/rice
How do cramming for the SATs and ending world hunger relate? Through a not-for-profit online game, of course. Launched in October of 2007, FreeRice has two objectives: to help you beef up your vocabulary and to end world hunger by providing free rice to hungry people.
The latter, loftier goal is achieved each time you correctly identify the definition of a given word. For each correct response, 20 grains of rice are donated to the United Nations World Food Program and then distributed to people in more than 75 countries. The rice is paid for by the advertising real estate on the site, and dowordsmiths have racked up more than 21 billion grains to date. So whether you’re prepping for the GREs or just want up your Scrabulous scores, FreeRice can help—you’ll be using terms like somnolent and scission in no time. Studying never felt so good.
