No sleep til’ Bklyn
Looking for something to do in New York this weekend? Head over to the borough of kings to check out BKLYN DESIGNS, a furniture and design fair that runs tomorrow through Sunday, May 9 to 11. Now in its sixth year, the show—which is put on by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce—will feature the latest in furniture, accessories, and lighting created by renowned Brooklyn designers. With a continued emphasis on sustainability, highlights of this year include light fixtures made from found objects, tables built from reclaimed wood, and textiles inspired by nature. And since so many talented designers live in the area, the fair has expanded to include BD+, a home and fashion accessories market that will take place in the Tobacco Warehouse in Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park.
In addition to showcasing the latest and greatest in local design, the fair is hosting designed-inspired seminars and events; you can even join ReadyMade on Sunday, May 11 for a Mother’s Day craft workshop.
Entry to BD+ is free throughout the weekend, but for BKLYN DESIGNS’ four other venues, you must purchase a (very affordable) day pass for $15. (Get all the details on attending here.) And keep an eye out for the free shuttle service running through Williamsburg and Downtown Brooklyn to DUMBO on Friday, May 9. Design enthusiasts: get on the bus.
