Eat on this: Garnish a tabletop with leftovers
To fans of Ikea Hacker, the Swedish megaretailer’s furniture pieces are merely blank canvases for their design experiments. The blog catalogs all kinds of DIY mods you can make to the store’s overly basic particleboard staples.
One such idea is to use leftover wallpaper to liven up the Vika table. Alice (who writes the blog NoussNouss) used carpenter glue to paste the wallpaper onto her table (pictured here) and then topped it with pre-cut glass to add a protective layer. Alternatively, you could skip the glass and use vinyl or vinyl-coated wallpaper to combat moisture and stains.
Coincidentally, there is no better time for such a project. New collections are popping up all over. Check out Ferm Living, Graham & Brown, and Anthropologie—even good old Target even has an admirable array of intriguing designs. So why limit yourself to papering your walls? No surface is safe from my wallpapering desires; if only the cat would hold still long enough for the paste to dry.
