NIGHT LIGHT
For this glowing project, we converted a Fossil Watch tin into an illuminated masterpiece, perfect for dark winter nights.
Ingredients/Tools:
- Pencil
- Paper
- Fossil Watch tin
- Scotch tape
- Spray paint
- Contact paper
- Cardboard box
- Safety goggles
- Safety gloves
- Dremel tool with drill bits, grinding bits, buffer bits
- Night light socket and bulb
Make It:
- Using a pencil and paper, create a simple stencil pattern that you want to cut into the lid. With the scissors, cut out your stencil like you would a paper snowflake.
- Tape the paper stencil to the inside of the lid, and lightly spray paint over the stencil. Remove. Adhere a protective layer of contact paper or tape to the outside of the tin to avoid scratches from metal pieces.
- Working within a cardboard box and wearing proper safety gear, use the screwdriver bit on the Dremel, and carve out holes through the tin where the spray-painted shapes are. Set the torque setting on 10 to blast through the tin.
- After you've cut all the preliminary holes, shape them with the cone-shaped grinding bit, doing your best to grind off all the sharp edges and metal spurs.
- When your design is complete, use the Dremel to carve and buff a hole in the tin's bottom for the night light bulb to fit in.
- Run light socket through hole with plug facing out and back (towards bottom of tin) and screw in lightbulb inside the tin. Put lid on, plug in, and shine on.
